He Was Addicted To Cocaine

My brother came to visit last month and I found out something about him. He is addicted to cocaine. I caught him using it in my bathroom. I was pretty upset when I saw him doing it. I thought he was over that phase of his life.

When he was 16 he started getting into drugs. It really upset my parents and he was able to get some help. He would use all the time and they finally put him in a treatment center. He was in there for about nine weeks which seemed like a very long time.

When he got out he seemed better but just two years later he left again. He was always so sad during that time and I wondered what was going on. He is now 25 and it seems like he still hasn't gotten his life together. I am not sure why he is having such trouble.

I know cocaine can really mess someone up. I asked him how long he had been using this time and he told me three years. My heart just wanted to break. I told him I really hoped he would get help again.

He told me he wasn't sure that he wanted to. That he had gone before and it only helped for a while. I tried to explain that he was older now and things were different. I told him that he had a better chance of success this time.

I am not sure what he is going to do. He just started a new job and I hope he doesn't lose it because of this. It is frustrating that the drugs could ruin his life in this way. I really wish there was something more I could do for him but I am not sure what it would be.

The Extent Of Alcohol Abuse In The USA

The abuse of alcohol can be a difficult issue to address since it is the most commonly used, and accepted drug - and of course, it's legal in most parts of the world. Close to 50% of Americans aged 12 years old and over have consumed alcohol. Alcohol abuse statistics report that as many as between 10 and 15 million people in the USA would be classified as alcoholics.

Almost half of those are teenagers. These statistics show that a dependency on alcohol affects around 8% of women, and 17% of men. Reports by the CDC (Center for Disease Control) state that the number of deaths, annually, attributed to alcohol abuse stands at 79,000. Alcohol abuse is the third most common cause of death in America, and it jumps to number one for those aged between 15 years and 24 years of age.

Alcohol and drug abuse can be difficult subjects to approach with loved ones, and it is advisable to get professional help if you're not sure how to handle the situation. Alcohol abuse treatment is more effective today than ever before due to the advances in the treatment strategies and resources. Recognizing an alcohol addiction, or alcohol abuse in someone you know, or in yourself means noticing the signs of dependency.

An inability to stop drinking even when continuing to drink is causing problems, is a sign the person needs help. Certainly, a dependency on alcohol in order to feel okay is cause for concern, and seeing a professional immediately to talk about alcohol abuse treatment options is a must. The earlier you are able to catch it, the less damage alcoholism will do. Treatment for an alcoholic, will involve detoxing he body completely of all alcohol in order to rid the body of its dependency.
