Barbiturates Like Amytal - How To Stop Taking Them

There are many problems that can be dealt with using benzodiazepines. These are drugs that are prescribed like Xanax that are able to help people with depression. Before them benzodiazepines were used, drugs like Amytal, Nembutal, and Seconal to name a few. They are able to act on your central nervous system, depressing it, allowing you to feel a mild form of sedation. They were often given right before surgery, and are prescribed by doctors even today. Here is how you can end your addiction to barbiturates.

What Barbiturates Actually Do?

When you go to a doctor and a prescribed barbiturates, it's usually an attempt to help people with feeling depressed or experiencing anxiety. Their ability to numb the central nervous system allows people to feel much more relaxed and confident. These are the opposite of drugs that stimulate the central nervous system, something that drugs like Ritalin do for those that have ADHD. The symptoms that you will feel especially if you have overdosed on them is severe weakness, slurred speech, poor judgment, irritability and the possibility of developing a fever. However, like any type of drug, you can become addicted to them, and here's what you need to do to end our dependency upon them.

Ending Your Dependency To Barbiturates

Barbiturates like Phenobarbital and many others can be taken regularly without addiction forming, but if you do become addicted, treatment centers might be your only option. You could switch over to benzodiazepines, but those can also become addicting as well. A treatment center, along with therapy to help you along with your anxiety and depression, might be a great way to stop using them, drugs that you simply don't want to have in your body as they can impair your health.

The Dangers Of The Club Drug Special K

In the United States, and many parts of Europe, there is a growing popularity of large club parties called raves, and with those large parties come a certain kind of psychoactive drugs called club drugs. When teenagers go to these large raves, club drugs are easily available and inexpensive to buy. There is a myth amongst many young adults that the drugs that are sold at these giant clubs are not dangerous or addicting, however, there are quite a few people that do end up being addicted to these drugs. Most of these drugs are quite damaging to the liver, lungs and brain cells, a short list of these drugs would include ketamine, LSD, ecstasy, and Rohypnol, but our new ones coming on the market daily. For now, let's take a look at ketamine and it's symptoms of abuse plus long-term health risks.

Ketamine is mainly considered an anesthetic for use on animals, it is sometimes also used on humans but rarely. When administered by a Dr. or veterinarian for a limited time it's fairly safe in the right dose. However, when abused by humans country you reside in. Most users report having vivid hallucinations, delirium, and amnesia as a  result of taking special, it can be fairly dangerous, and is quite often mixed with other drugs such as heroin, cocaine and marijuana in order to boost the overall high. The street  name for ketamine is "Vitamin K", or "Special K" depending on the part of the K, in addition to respiratory problems that can sometimes end in death.

Some people believe since vitamin K is used by doctors that it's safe  to abuse without becoming addicted. Unfortunately this is a myth, and an overdose of Special K can be quite deadly the very first time. If you or someone you know is having trouble breaking their addiction it would be good to seek the help of a qualified drug addiction and rehabilitation clinic in your area.

There are several psychostimulant drugs that are prescribed by doctors for certain conditions and syndromes that people may be experiencing. It is for a common for methylphenidate to be prescribed to individuals that are going through narcolepsy or that suffer from ADHD. The purpose of the drugs is to stimulate the central nervous system, helping to end the symptoms they are currently experiencing which include an inability to focus, behave properly, or to sit still even for a short period of time. Here are some of the most common drugs that are prescribed by doctors, and how people can end their addiction to them.

Common Methylphenidate Drugs

He Was Addicted To Cocaine

My brother came to visit last month and I found out something about him. He is addicted to cocaine. I caught him using it in my bathroom. I was pretty upset when I saw him doing it. I thought he was over that phase of his life.

When he was 16 he started getting into drugs. It really upset my parents and he was able to get some help. He would use all the time and they finally put him in a treatment center. He was in there for about nine weeks which seemed like a very long time.

When he got out he seemed better but just two years later he left again. He was always so sad during that time and I wondered what was going on. He is now 25 and it seems like he still hasn't gotten his life together. I am not sure why he is having such trouble.

I know cocaine can really mess someone up. I asked him how long he had been using this time and he told me three years. My heart just wanted to break. I told him I really hoped he would get help again.

He told me he wasn't sure that he wanted to. That he had gone before and it only helped for a while. I tried to explain that he was older now and things were different. I told him that he had a better chance of success this time.

I am not sure what he is going to do. He just started a new job and I hope he doesn't lose it because of this. It is frustrating that the drugs could ruin his life in this way. I really wish there was something more I could do for him but I am not sure what it would be.

Treatment For Opiates - Kick Substance Abuse To The Curb

Many people feel lost in a downward spiral when it comes to different types of substance abuse. Opiates are no different because they can really take a firm grip on a person's existence, not allowing them to break free without help.

However, the right help is out there if you just give it a chance and tell yourself that you want things to change. You don't even have to know how they are going to change. All it takes is the choice to start working in the right direction.

Realize first that drugs can play mind control tricks on you, and this is directly related to chemical imbalances as much as it is any other attribute. This is especially true for opiates because they mess with dopamine in the brain.

So, put mind over matter, and just make the decision to stop today, even without your brain agreeing. After making this decision, an inpatient treatment center with qualified medical professionals can take over, and they can help you kick your substance abuse to the curb one step at a time.

It is very unfortunate that many people have opiate addictions due to old conditions where opiates were introduced as pain relievers to help them get better. In essence, what worked in their treatment has now become their addiction.

Others become addicted to opiates from getting their hands on different street drugs, and these make it into the hands of our youth these days as well. This is very troubling, as the opiates affect the control centers of brains that are not yet even fully developed.

There is always away out. You can take one day at a time, and before you know it, you will have many days under your belt that are drug free.

Is Marijuana Addiction Real?

Marijuana has been in the news a lot recently.  In the United States, medical use has been made legal in over 10 states.  Around the world, governments are debating whether or not they should legalize this drug.

It is only natural for people to wonder if this is a wise move.  After all, everybody has been warned of the dangers of drugs.  Conflicting messages about whether pot is bad or not may have people wondering if weed is addictive.

The short answer to this question is yes.  Although rare, marijuana addiction is real.  Some groups of people are more susceptible to this type of addiction than others.

The people most at risk are those with problems like stress, mental illness or a genetic predisposition to addiction.  The majority of marijuana users will find that quitting is no problem.  When they experience health problems, financial difficulties or simply lose interest, they will stop using the drug.

Studies have shown that around 9% of marijuana users will abuse the drug.  If studies included those dependent on marijuana, this figure could be as high as 20%.  Unfortunately, only a very small percentage of these people seek help.

Like other addictions, marijuana addiction can negatively impact a person's life.  Addicts will find that they are less emotionally connected to their work, studies, families and friends.  This could cause them to drop things that were once important to them in order to consume marijuana.

Eventually, addicts realize that they do have a problem.  It is at this point that they seek help.  In the case of marijuana addiction, inpatient therapy is highly recommended.

Inpatient programs offer patients intensive therapy.  This will help them determine which factors contributed to their addiction and find ways to manage them without abusing drugs.  For instance, people with mental illness may be prescribed antidepressants.

Dealing With Substance Abuse

It is important to make sure substance abuse does not become an irreparable part of your life. A lot of people have to deal with this issue on a regular basis and it is never a pleasant sight. it is important to make sure you are putting in the time and effort to get out from under this ordeal as soon as you can.

I have been dealing with substance abuse for a while too. I have had stints where having cocaine running through my veins was essential and I fed off it. I needed it as a source of energy and if I didn't get it, I would not be able to function for the rest of the day. Never get into a position like this because it can cause a lot of damage that could have been avoided with more care.

I know many people who spend years of their lives just struggling to make ends meet because they are splurging on drugs. This is just not the right way to live and not only are you harming yourself, there are moments where you end up harming others too and that is unacceptable.

I realized how I was behaving and this is when I decided to turn around my life and become a better person. By visiting a rehab center, I was able to turn things around and just become a better person in the short and long-run.

This is what mattered to me and this is what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I couldn't accept the fact that I would be living in an umbrella of substance abuse because it would continue to chip away at my life and that is never a good thing to face for anyone that is in such a situation.

Understanding the Signs and Symptoms of Alcohol Abuse

Learning to identify the signs of alcohol abuse can help you or a loved one know whether or not you should seek treatment. Rather than struggling in the grips of addiction, alcohol abuse treatment gives you the freedom to live your life the way you were meant to. When evaluating whether or not alcohol has become a problem, watch for these common signs of alcohol abuse.

Withdrawing from Activities

One of the first signs of alcohol abuse is withdrawing from activities that were once enjoyable. Feeding an addiction takes a lot of time and energy, which can eat up time that you would have spent doing other things that you enjoy. It can also make the things you once enjoyed seem less meaningful, causing you to lose your desire to do them. Instead, most of your free time is spent drinking, thinking about drinking, or recovering from drinking.

Drinking Alone

Many people have a drink or two on their own to unwind after a hard day at work. However, drinking is traditionally a social activity. If you find yourself having more than a couple of drinks a day by yourself, you could be developing an alcohol abuse problem – especially if you drink until the point that you are drunk on a nearly daily basis.

Missing Work or School

If you find yourself calling in sick to work or school because you are hung over, or simply skipping out on your responsibilities so you have time to drink, it is a strong indicator that you may have a problem. Anytime drinking becomes the number one priority in your life, you should consider seeking help.

Knowing the signs and symptoms of alcohol abuse can help you identify whether or not alcohol has become a problem. Seeking treatment for alcohol abuse can free you from the shackles of drinking, allowing you to live a normal, fulfilling life again.

Recovery From An Addiction To Black Tar Heroin

An addiction to heroin (diamorphine) can be deadly and it is believed that opioid dependency is one of the hardest things to overcome. Furthermore, the heroin on the streets today is mixed with all sorts of toxic chemicals and contaminates that can often cause more damage to a person's health than the heroin itself.

Black tar heroin can be found in just about every major city and it is not hard for a person to get started on the drug. More worrying, however, is the fact that it is now becoming possible to buy heroin and other illegal drugs anonymously online. The ability to buy illegal drugs online is leading to many different groups of people developing heroin addictions who would in the past not ordinarily have been exposed to any street drugs.

Once You Go Black (Tar Heroin) It's Hard To Come Back!

Once a person is hooked on heroin, quitting the drug can seem like an impossible task. This is because withdrawal from heroin can often cause almost unbearable pain and suffering. In order to detox from heroin safely, checking into a rehab center is the best option. Unfortunately, a stay at a drug addiction rehabilitation or detox center can cost a lot of money and many drug addicts simply can't afford to visit a professional facility.

Fortunately, there are some government funded rehabs centers in operation and such centers can be a lifesaver for heroin addicts who don't have the funds to pay for a residential stay at a private detox facility. Unfortunately, however, free rehab centers usually have long waiting lists and many heroin addicts die before they are ever admitted to a detox center.

When it comes to a drug addiction, prevention is always better than recovery. Consequently, there are now more drug awareness programs in operation than ever before. Many ex-addicts are also now keen to warn others of the dangers of a drug addiction.

How To Stop Using Ketamine - Two Tips That Work

The very popular drug that is used by teenagers, adults, and people from all different walks of life is called ketamine. It is extremely popular, especially at party scenes, and is often used I unscrupulous individuals that get it to unsuspecting people to abuse them while they sleep. Unfortunately, despite the negative ramifications of this drug, it continues to grow in popularity. Many people become addicted, not to the actual drug itself, but the type of feelings and visuals that it provides. Let's look at the side effects of this drug, and why people are so addicted to Vitamin K today.

Substance Abuse With Special K

In today's world, there are many different types of drugs to choose from. Opiates are very popular. Some people will use mushrooms or shrooms in order to have a mind altering experience. LSD was used back in the 60s prominently, and is even used today. But one of the most popular rave drugs is ketamine, also called simply K, and is abused by thousands of people throughout our nation on a regular basis. Here are some tips on choosing the right rehabilitation direction to go in a few cannot stop using ketamine.

Best Rehab Tips For Ketamine

Obviously, the first one is to stop using it altogether. It does not have the same effect as opiates which can change the way your body processes causing you to have massive withdrawal symptoms after you stop taking it. Ketamine has the ability to provide people with hallucinations, making them feel as if they are out of their body, some of which have what they believe to be a death experience. If they can stop using this drug, which typically can only happen if they are at a rehab center, they can slowly wean themselves off wanting to have those unique experiences and stop using it altogether.

Why Hallucinogens Are So Addicting Today

There is a drug on the market that is actually illegal, that can provide you with some of the most interesting experiences you will ever have. Back in the 60s, LSD was very popular because it would provide psychoactive trips. During these events, people would see what appeared to be changes in physical matter, alterations in time, and what appeared to be different realms. The same is true for other hallucinogens, one in particular, called psilocybin. Let's discuss what this drug is, what it does, and how you can avoid drug abuse with this particular hallucinogenic drug.

What Are Magic Mushrooms?

Shrooms or magic mushrooms are sold today as a type of drug that is designed to give people an altered perception of the world. These can be found in many areas, but South America seems to be one of the most prominent locations where it is naturally grown. You can actually find them growing in cow patties naturally in fields, and by ingesting them a certain way, you can experience an out of body or altered state. These are very popular because of the effects that they provide, despite the fact that they are illegal.

Avoiding Addiction To Shrooms

The only way to avoid an addiction to these particular drugs is to stop taking them. Unlike opiate-based medications which can affect the receptors of your mind causing you to go through withdrawals, your primary reason for not wanting to stop this because they make you feel so much better. The ability to escape your everyday life, see new and unusual things, and experience life from a completely different perspective, it is the primary reason that people continue to take psilocybin because of these psychoactive effects. You can talk to somebody that is at a treatment center if you need to get help to escape the addiction to magic mushrooms.

Abusing Cocaine

A lot of people struggle with a cocaine addiction. Maybe it's something you tried in college to help you study? Perhaps you got into it because some friends were doing it? Whatever the reason, they won't judge you at a rehab facility. All they care about is getting you clean, so you can live a happy, healthy and productive life. Don't you think you deserve that? So many people have already realized that they do. That's why there are rehab facilities all over the country.

Worried that getting off cocaine will be way to expensive. I'm not going to lie to you, it'll be pricey. How much money do you spend on drugs though? An addiction will drain money from you for a long time, rehab will only be one big fee. Plus, a lot of insurance companies will partly cover rehab facilities. If you don't have insurance, you're in luck because there's Obamacare.

I think everyone who's abused cocaine knows there are a lot of mental problems that go along with it. When we can't sleep because we've done a line of coke it's hard to imagine how anyone could put up with it. Well, did you know it could also cost you your life? Cocaine puts a lot of stress on the heart, and people do have heart attacks while on it. If you'd like to avoid this, go into treatment right away. It's the only way to save your life. You will suffer a cardiac arrest eventually if you don't quite. You never hear of a coke addict living to one hundred.

I hope you decide to get the treatment you need and deserve. It all starts with you opening that door. I'm sure you'll be able to accomplish a lot more sober then you ever did when you were using.

The Facts Of Alcohol Abuse

The prevalence of alcohol abuse has continued to increase over recent years, and is particularly excessive in college students. There is some confusion over the difference between heavy social drinking, alcohol abuse, and alcoholism. This is an important distinction for those who need help in recovering from the consequences of alcohol abuse.

Drinking socially is part of our culture, and in fact, four out of every five college students consume alcohol. It's part of the college experience. However, it can lead to serious danger, injury, and even death. Every year over 1,800 college students between 18 and 24 years old die from alcohol related injuries. These are injuries that are unintentional, not deliberate crime related injuries.

Over 690,000 students in the same age group are assaulted by students who have been drinking, and over 97,000 students in that age group are the victims of sexual assault or date rape related to alcohol abuse.

These alcohol abuse statistics highlight a serious need for education in the college arena, on the risks and dangers of overindulging in alcohol, along with how easy it is to fall into the trap of alcohol abuse without realizing it.

Alcohol abuse affects academic results as well as health issues. A quarter of students report that their drinking has led to negative academic consequences, including falling behind, missing classes, and low grades.

In addition to this, abuse of alcohol comes with a serious suicide risk. Around 1.5% of students have attempted suicide within the past year as a result of alcohol or drug abuse. The education of college students on the consequences of alcohol abuse, and informing them of alcohol abuse facts, is a top priority in order to prevent the tragedy of abuse, and to help students achieve the best foundation in life.

Drug Abuse With Psilocybin - Get Help This Week

Magic mushrooms or shrooms as they are referred to on the street, our natural products that are sold because of their hallucinogenic abilities. There is a chemical in the mushrooms called psilocybin which is able to cause people to hallucinate, a product that is primarily found in the United States, South America and Mexico. In most cases, it will have about half a percent of psilocybin for every dose that you take. It can be produced synthetically like other illegal drugs, however the effects may be slightly different. Here are some tips on finding treatment centers for individuals that would like to stop using magic mushrooms this year.

What Does Psilocybin Look Like

Magic mushrooms can be purchased dried, or fresh, and they will have slender stems with dark gills under the caps of the mushroom. If it's fresh, it will be whitish gray, whereas the dried variety is either an off-white or a rusty brown. When taken in excess, which is possible simply ingesting it as a tea, the body will convert the psilocybin to psilocyn which will cause the effects. Although Magic mushrooms look very harmless, and people use them in food and drinks every day, it is still something that you should avoid using because of the many risks that are involved.

Risks Involved With Magic Mushrooms

When you ingest the magic mushrooms, it will affect you for at least six hours. It will cause lack of coordination, muscle weakness and vomiting. Although tests had shown that people may not become physically dependent on psilocybin as they would on opiates or cocaine, the experience itself is what is addicting. You can have a bad trip where you will be unable to tell the difference between reality and fantasy, and people with depression often have very scary experiences. You can get help for your addiction by finding a treatment center in your city or town that specifically helps individuals addicted to shrooms.

Since psilocybin is actually a schedule 1 substance, the same level at which LSD and heroin are ranked, it can get you into trouble if you are found with it in your possession, which is why getting help for your addiction to this drug is of utmost importance. Do a search on the web, or talk to your physician about treatment centers near you. You can contact them in full confidentiality, and get the help that you need.

10 Signs of Dependency on Prescription Painkillers

Many people all over the US and the world in general depend on prescription painkillers for pain relief for ailments such as headaches and menstrual cramps. The problem is that too much reliance on these may lead to an addiction to pain meds. The following are 10 signs to watch out for if you believe that someone is developing dependence.

First, the individual will develop and increase in the usage of the painkillers since the patient’s body starts to get tolerant of the drug’s effects thereby making them need even more.
Noticeable change in the user’s personality. The user will experience shifts in their behavior and temperament since their major goal is to get a ‘fix’ of the drugs.

Social withdrawal whereby the user will not be interested in any form of interaction with family, friends or society in general will inform you of possible abuse. Continued usage of the painkillers even long after their medical condition has improved.  Increase in the time the user spends looking for pain medication prescriptions for drugs such as OxyContin and Oxycodone.

Change in the changes in the appearance and dressing of the user. The user may start neglecting their personal hygiene due to the addiction to drugs. Neglect of personal responsibilities is another sign. The individual will start neglecting their personal obligations and responsibilities.

Forgetfulness and blackouts. The user may start forgetting even very basic details about their lives.
Defensiveness. This is whereby the user starts getting defensive once they realize that their addiction is getting discovered.

Lastly is the increased sensitivity whereby normal sights and sounds may tend to be too stimulating to the user and they may even suffer from hallucinations. In conclusion, those are the main signs to look out for if you suspect someone of abusing painkillers or has an addiction to pain meds.

The Extent Of Alcohol Abuse In The USA

The abuse of alcohol can be a difficult issue to address since it is the most commonly used, and accepted drug - and of course, it's legal in most parts of the world. Close to 50% of Americans aged 12 years old and over have consumed alcohol. Alcohol abuse statistics report that as many as between 10 and 15 million people in the USA would be classified as alcoholics.

Almost half of those are teenagers. These statistics show that a dependency on alcohol affects around 8% of women, and 17% of men. Reports by the CDC (Center for Disease Control) state that the number of deaths, annually, attributed to alcohol abuse stands at 79,000. Alcohol abuse is the third most common cause of death in America, and it jumps to number one for those aged between 15 years and 24 years of age.

Alcohol and drug abuse can be difficult subjects to approach with loved ones, and it is advisable to get professional help if you're not sure how to handle the situation. Alcohol abuse treatment is more effective today than ever before due to the advances in the treatment strategies and resources. Recognizing an alcohol addiction, or alcohol abuse in someone you know, or in yourself means noticing the signs of dependency.

An inability to stop drinking even when continuing to drink is causing problems, is a sign the person needs help. Certainly, a dependency on alcohol in order to feel okay is cause for concern, and seeing a professional immediately to talk about alcohol abuse treatment options is a must. The earlier you are able to catch it, the less damage alcoholism will do. Treatment for an alcoholic, will involve detoxing he body completely of all alcohol in order to rid the body of its dependency.

Marijuana Or Pot Is Indeed Drug Abuse

Many people feel that marijuana isn't a drug or that it is fun for recreational use. However, what they don't realize is the negative effects it has on them while using. In fact, it is a drug, and it hinders a person from living life to its fullest.

First, users who smoke often continue to increase the amount they smoke daily. This not only costs them a lot of money and hinders their finances, but it also limits the activities they present themselves with daily.

It can really pull the wool over your eyes. Just as with other drug abuse and addiction, marijuana causes people to lie to themselves, attempting to justify the drug use. The people base this on the fact that not only is it fun, but that they really aren't physically addicted and that there aren't any severe consequences of smoking marijuana.

Indeed, smoking marijuana does have health consequences. While there is no chance of overdose, people use this as a reason to justify their recreational use.

Smoking marijuana can also hinder relationships, and it can make a person not able to perform job duties or communicate properly with other people. People who report stopping smoking for a few days after a long period of time often say that they never realized it had such a grasp on their lives.

Marijuana may appear not to be dangerous, but it truly is a dangerous drug just like everything else. It alters your mood, thought patterns, communication, schedule and more. How are you going to pursue your goals and dreams if you're constantly smoking something that alters your life completely? The answer is you're not, and that is why seeking help to stop smoking marijuana is your best solution. The help is out there waiting for you.

What Addicts Need To Know About Painkiller Addiction

People may be surprised to learn that many addicts are not addicted to street drugs.  A large number of addicts are using prescription medication and painkillers such as Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Oxymorphone and Meperidine.

How do People Become Addicted to Prescription Medication?

People often get addicted to the drugs their doctors prescribe.  They may be using these drugs for a legitimate purpose at first.  However, when their body becomes reliant on the drugs, they start taking them when they no longer have a medical need for them.

A perfect example of this scenario is a person who has been in a car accident.  He or she may have been prescribed painkillers to help cope with the pain as their body heals.

If they become addicted to these painkillers, they might start taking it to satiate their body's need for the drug.  This situation is not uncommon as painkillers are highly addictive.

Some people simply abuse their prescription medication for fun.  They believe that it may give them the same high as alcohol and other drugs.  This is extremely foolish and rarely works.

How to Deal With a Painkiller Addiction

Painkiller and prescription medication addictions can be just as dangerous as other addictions.  Addicts risk their jobs and personal relationships when their pursuit of drugs becomes more important than other aspects of their lives.

So, what are addicts in this situation to do?  The answer to this question is simple - get help.

The first step of recovering is admitting their is a problem and seeking treatment.  Addicts will find that they will be more likely to be successful at kicking their habit if they have the support of their loved ones.

There are several treatment options available to addicts.  The one selected will depend on their personal preferences and/or budget.

The Ease Of Getting Addicted To Pain Meds

Getting addicted to pain meds is one thing that is a problem for people of all walks of life. While many people think of certain drugs as only prevalent in poor communities, this is one problem that has plagued people of all socioeconomic backgrounds.

Have you ever been hurt and the doctor wrote you a prescription for a pain pill? This is the beginning of the end for many people. While some people find relief right away, others start to take more than they were prescribed in order to ease the pain. You may ask yourself why they would not talk to their doctor before doing this, but it is usually a spur of the moment decision made while in pain.

The worst thing about painkiller addiction is the fact that eventually the prescription runs out and people turn to illegal means in order to get the drugs they are craving. This includes going to multiple doctors in order to get several prescriptions and buying them from people who are prescribed the drug. Either of these options is a recipe for disaster.

Since most people think of drug abuse as something that only happens with things like cocaine and heroin, getting people to admit that they need help for painkiller addiction is quite complicated. Instead of arguing with them, it would be best to print out some information from online and share it with them.

It is a long and hard road to recover from any type of addiction, and this isn't any different. If you or someone you know has been using pain medication more than prescribed, this is cause for concern and the issue should be addressed right away. Do not wait around until things get so far along that lives are irreparably affected.

Ketamine - The Post-Club Drug

Ketamine is best known as a party drug. Ketamine was most popular in the 90's when the rave culture was a big deal but now it isn't as popular a drug in the US. Ketamine is most popular in the Hong Kong party scene. Ketamine goes by many names such as, K, special K and vitamin K. One use of the drug is as a "date rape" drug. It is used like this because it makes a person pass out and forget where they are and what they are doing. This drug is also used as a post-club drug to calm down after partying really hard or using some sort of stimulate. The use of Ketamine has decreased to the point where less than 1% of middle school and high school kids have used it.

All the numbers of people who have used are low and declining, their are people who do use it and who need help. They can find help through drug treatment and substance abuse treatment. It is a drug that is not a joke and that should be treated with care. People who use it should know the dangers and make an effort to quit using it.

As you can tell, ketamine is a drug that was most popular in the 90's during the rave era. Now, it isn't use that much in the States but it is still popular in Asia. With use numbers under 1%, people might think that it is no longer a problem but it is a big problem to the people that use it and who need help with their problems. If you know someone who needs help for this drug or any others, please contact us so that we can help you know what to do for them.

Lysergic Acid Diethylamide and Substance Abuse

Often, when people think about substance abuse, drugs such as cocaine and crystal meth are what comes to mind. It is rare that hallucinogens such as lysergic acid diethylamide are considered. However, this substance, commonly known as LSD, can be just as addictive as speed or opiates. In fact, it can be just as challenging for a person addicted to hallucinogens to adjust to living without drugs as any other addict.

When a person takes hallucinogens, they experience an altered state of reality. This can leave the normal world appearing plain and boring. The addict may seek more of the substance in order to have a good time. However, it is virtually impossible to function in the world while under the influence of these drugs. This leaves the person addicted to them without direction or aim.

RISKS OF LSD ABUSE

Substance abuse is not a situation that should be taken lightly. A person addicted to LSD faces serious health risks. The drug can cause an increase in heart rate and respiration. In addition, while a person is experiencing an altered frame of reality, they may make unsound choices that lead to harm or death to them or another person.

If you or someone you know is addicted to LSD or another form of acid, you need to contact a treatment center immediately. There are rehabilitation specialists all around the world who are trained to help addicts make the transition to living a life free from substance abuse. They are willing to work with patients to make certain they receive the best care that is possible.

More Awful Side Effects of Abusing Alcohol

We have spoken much before about the dangerous side effects of abusing alcohol, and here are even more awful side effects of abusing alcohol:

Alcohol and the Intestines

It is not a pretty subject to talk about, but one that is important to speak about in order to protect your health. The intestines are the roadway used to rid yourself of anything that you ingest. Alcohol, as well as many drugs, makes its way into your body in the same way as food, through ingestion. This being said, the alcohol products must take the same path as the food, through the intestines.

The only problem with this is that alcohol has devastating effects on whatever tissues it comes into contact with. This is why alcoholism can cause damage to the heart, liver, brain, tongue, sinuses, and -- yes -- even the intestines.

Severe Intestinal Damage

Damage to the intestines is not a pleasant experience, and especially so with the case of alcohol damage. In serious cases, sores, lesions, and ulcers can develop, leading to chronic pain that can persist for years. The most awful part of the intestinal damage caused by alcohol is the development of chronic persistent diarrhea, which also can persist for years!

Intestinal damage is just one more reason to take the abuse of alcohol very seriously. Slow damage can often be missed, but when you know how that damage will end up, you can make a better decision to stay away from alcohol abuse.

What does MDMA do to your brain?

When MDMA was first being used in the 60s, it wasn't used recreationally. Instead, it was used to treat mental health issues such as post traumatic stress disorder. It worked very well, and had an extremely positive impact on the emotional health of those who took it. But a few decades later, that drug would more commonly be referred to by the name ecstacy.

When recreational use of ecstasy first rose in popularity, it was at raves. People loved the positive feelings in inspired in them. But once the 90s hit, people were very familiar with the dark side of this drug. A number of ecstasy users died from dehydration, and these deaths received a lot of publicity. But what many don't know is that are many other risks to MDMA. You should be keenly aware of how this drug can affect your brain.

The reason MDMA makes people feel so good is because it increases the levels of serotonin and dopamine in your brain. However, your brain will try to make up for this increase by finding ways to reduce these levels. It'll do this by cutting out on the amount of cells that would typically work as receptors.

With continued use of ecstasy, those nerve cells may begin to die out, which means you won't have enough serotonin or dopamine in your brain without taking ecstacy. If you use the drug regularly, your brain will have a chemical imbalance, which will cause clinical depressions. Research has shown that MDMA usage also affects you ability to concentrate, and those who take the drug frequently may be confused for long periods of time.

Some researchers also believe that MDMA can do permanent damage to both your visual and spatial abilities. Recent research suggests that ecstasy can also cause memory loss.

If you want to take ecstasy for a short-term high, you should know that it might have long-term consequences.

What is Alcohol Abuse?

Alcohol addiction is a common issue that affects men and women of all ages and from all walks of life. Alcoholism can develop slowly, with social drinkers gradually becoming more and more dependent on alcohol to help them relax and unwind. Alcoholism can destroy relationships and can also cause a lot of health problems.

Alcohol Detox ProgramsThe effects of alcohol abuse include increased risk of cancer and heart disease, as well as liver problems in people who drink heavily for prolonged periods of time. In addition to these physical consequences, there are social consequences of alcohol abuse. Alcoholics are more likely to be unemployed, live in poverty, suffer from domestic violence issues, and get divorced. It is also common for alcoholics to either be depressed, or to develop depression as a result of their long term drinking.

Alcohol abuse puts a lot of strain on families. It is common for family members to feel that they must cover for the alcoholic, both financially and socially. An alcoholic parent can cause emotional trauma to their children that can persist long into adulthood, and may lead to the child going on to become an alcoholic themselves.

The good news is that there is support available for people who are trying to recover from alcohol and drug abuse. There are many alcohol abuse treatment centers in the country that can provide advice on how to beat alcoholism, including both physical and psychological support. Recovering alcoholics that have a close support network of family and friends are more likely to get, and stay, sober than those who have already distanced themselves from those around them because of their addiction, but anyone who is willing to make a concerted effort to beat their addiction will benefit from working with an alcohol abuse treatment center.

When it comes down to it, you may think meth can help you to get a lot done and to feel great doing things. This, however, won't be the case for long. Getting away from where you get the meth from may be the only option you have to stay clean. You're always going to have cravings for this drug if you've tried it and enjoyed it. Pain Control Or Addiction With Oxycodone?

When it comes to the administration of pain medications, there is actually a staggering amount of people who are taking drugs such as hydrocodone and oxycodone to relieve chronic pain. Because of the availability of such drugs, it is very common that many people are falling victim to an addiction to such pain medications. If you or someone that you know is taking oxycodone or any of the other pain medications in the same group such as oxymorphone, hydrocodone and meperidine, it is important to learn all about the signs of addiction and how to address it.

One unfortunate side of pain medications is that someone who is an addict can end up being prescribed another pain medication such as oxycodone if they have an accident or undergo a surgical procedure. Whenever this happens, there is the risk of falling addicted all over again. Even though their prior addiction may have been alleviated, there is the chance of waking up the addiction and falling into the same cycle. Once their prescription runs out, they can end up looking for different ways that they can obtain the pills that they need in order to feed their addiction.

Some people who have an addiction to oxycodone can end up shopping around to see if they can get a prescription from different doctors. Not only that, but it may also be necessary to look for different pharmacies so that they are not flagged for filling an excessive amount of prescriptions. Sadly, the next step is often looking to some sort of a dealer that will sell them pills, which can lead to a deadly game of chance. Because it is impossible to be sure of what is being consumed, there is always the risk of emergent situations or even death.

When in need of pain medications, be sure that you talk with your physician about the proper way to take them without becoming addicted. Having the right amount of knowledge surrounding oxycodone will be the best way to make sure that you move forward in a safe and healthy manner.

Keeping Dangerous Prescription Drugs Away From Kids

.
Many folks fail to appreciate how dangerous having prescription medications around the house can truly be. Consider the fact that if young kids are able to find such medications easily in the home, serious hazards can arise. Lots of drugs that have pain relief, stimulant or sedative effects on those who take them are abused by teenagers looking for a high. Understanding the best ways to ensure that youngsters cannot access prescription medicines will go a long way toward keeping everyone safe.

The first thing to do is make certain to lock up all drugs in the house, whether over-the-counter or prescription in nature. Also, you should be certain to get rid of any prescriptions that are no longer valid or in use.

It is important for parents of teens to do some research so that they understand precisely which medications are frequently used by kids to get high. Having this knowledge will help you realize which drugs are the most concerning and what to look for in terms of kids who may be seeking them for the wrong reasons. If you pay close attention to what your kids are doing and saying, you will be able to notice when things have begun to take a negative turn.

Ultimately, it is wise to keep open lines of communication with your children so that they know that prescriptions are only meant for the person who received them from a doctor. Letting them know the dangers that such drugs can pose to those for whom they are not intended will dissuade them from trying to find them as a means to get high. Staying in touch with what your kids are doing and thinking is one of the very best methods of protecting them from misusing prescription drugs. Not only will you feel more confident that they appreciate the risks, but you will also have the ability to forge a stronger relationship with your teenagers overall. This is something that every parent surely wants, and it is easier to achieve than many believe.

Returning To Normal Behavior After Taking Amphetamines

Amphetamine addicts may find it more difficult than others to walk the road of recovery because of what these drugs do to your body.  Unlike depressants, these 'uppers' cause the body to speed up, which is why many amphetamine addicts don't get much sleep.  This can be highly detrimental and very painful, so if you are considering moving away from your upper addiction here is some useful advice.

Firstly, an amphetamine detox is one of the more difficult experiences as the withdrawal symptoms can be terrible.  If you are looking to come off the drug, it is advised that you check into a drug rehabilitation center where professionals can help you through your withdrawal process.  Furthermore, you won't have to worry about any other health problems that may arise during this time as these professionals will monitor your vital signs and even provide medication to help ease the transition from user to non-user.  The key to successful recovery is taking your time and ensuring you are safe when coming down.

Amphetamines are a type of hallucinogen which means that it can severely alter your perceptions.  In the beginning you may feel a slight change in reality, but after a while you may require speed to function on a daily basis and feel 'normal'.  If this is the cause, and you cannot imagine life without the drug, then you should look at yourself as an addict.  This is the time when you must find alternate distractions in your life and associate with other people who are not using the drug.  For a while you may be tempted to return to your old habits, but the trick is to keep busy and avoid temptation as much as possible.  By keeping busy you will maintain sobriety.

Now that you have more information on how to tackle an amphetamine addiction, use the advice and seek out help.  There are various medical professionals available to consult if you have any more questions on this matter.

R-Ball - Methylphenidate And Addiction

One of the most popular drugs used today in order to help people that have narcolepsy or ADHD is Ritalin. There are other drugs that are prescribed including Concerta and Methylin. These drugs fall into a class of psychostimulant drug called Methylphenidate. It is able to increase the amounts of dopamine in the brain, mostly in the prefrontal cortex, helping people become more functional and less aggressive. This lack of the so-called happy hormone seems to be to ADHD and aggression. Therefore, by increasing the amounts to normal levels, some people are able to become functional in society. Unfortunately, this is also highly overused by people seeking a high. Let's look at how Methylphenidate works, and how you can get treatment if you become addicted.

Recreational Uses Of Methylphenidate

In the same way that amphetamines are used to help people with ADHD, and also with performance enhancement, Methylphenidate is also used in the same way, especially recreationally. Although it is supposed to be used for those that actually have problems with producing enough dopamine, when people get excessive amounts of dopamine, they are able to do very well in sports, hence why it is called doping when using this particular substance.

How To Not Get Addicted

The first step in not getting addicted is to not use this drug for recreational purposes. Also called  MPH, R-ball, and vitamin R it is easy to obtain, and therefore controlling the substance is very difficult. You have to consider the fact that it has adverse effects such as causing people to become depressed, anxious, and may even cause men to lose their hair. As a result of these side effects, it's in your best interest to not get addicted, and to not use this drug if it is not for medical reasons.

The Shifting of Addictions

When I was 22, I had a real problem with alcohol... It got so bad, that friends wouldn't come near me, if I'd been drinking. Eventually, I gave up alcohol because I could no longer control myself under its influence. That's when the problems began...

The above quote comes from a 30 year old recovering drug and alcohol addict. He has been sober for 18 months, and recounts how his attempts to stop using one particular substance, lead him down a path of addiction and abuse of other substances.

Addiction occurs in the brain, so even though the chemicals and substances are the triggers for addiction, the processes of addiction are solely playing-out in the brain. For the above-referenced addict, addiction was already present; this is why the stopping of alcohol abuse merely morphed the addiction into the abuse of another substance.

This shape-shifting of addiction is quite common, and is often most evident in those that quit smoking -- as ex smokers tend to become addicted to exercise, eating, or other habits. To protect against these shifting addictions, it is important to seek comfort in healthy activities and pastimes, rather than picking up another troublesome habit.

Avoiding picking-up secondary, or follow-up addictions, is one of the main goals of residential rehab addiction treatment programs. In an inpatient setting, it is easier to avoid picking up habits while learning to stay sober. This ensures that you are not only healing from your past addictions, but you are replacing your bad habits with healthy living, and better choices.
